Working in the media-facing Communications Team, with the support of the Account Manager, the purpose of the role is to communicate brand characteristics and key product messages for BMW Motorrad to enhance the perception of stakeholders. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential to communicate with and influence these stakeholders, which include media, BMW dealers and partners, plus existing and potential customers.

The Press Officer will help to maximise media coverage and act as a point of contact for UK media, alongside the Account Manager. The role requires drafting of written assets and media materials, event coordination, model launch support, social media capabilities, liaison with brand ambassadors, media fleet co-ordination, and provision of PR support for World of BMW training and customer experience activities.


Key responsibilities:
Work with the Account Manager to provide an industry leading media office function, through first class execution of the following tasks:

Social media:
Regular posting and interaction across all of BMW Motorrad UK’s social channels
Insight to social media best practice to optimise output
Liaison with BMW’s digital agency to deliver leads, reporting and coordinate paid-for content
Photography, videography and live posting from BMW Motorrad events

Motor shows and events:
Attend duration of key shows / events to facilitate media / social tasks and customer liaison
Gather and share social media content from events attended / supported by BMW Motorrad
Work with account and manufacturer teams to coordinate media / rider / ambassador / machine activity

Press fleet:
Manage day-to-day press fleet activities to optimise utilisation
Proactively approach key media targets with loan / feature proposals
Seek out new media / influencer channels to target with bike loans
Liaise with BMW Motorrad to de-fleet models as necessary
Manage media loan logistics

Media launches:
Administer the invitation and travel logistics processes
Collate key attendee information and ensure that relevant media receive related materials
When appropriate, accompany account / manufacturer team on launch events, to assist media attendees

UK-specific events:
Assist account lead in organisation and logistics of events
Attend events to assist with logistics e.g. set-up / sign-on, media assistance and hosting
In collaboration with account lead, liaise with external suppliers and manufacturer, to ensure product availability and logistics of product delivery

Written / media materials:
Draft monthly BMW Motorrad newsletter
Write UK-specific news releases and media materials
Distribute media material to key media
Act as a contact point for media requests for images and data from media material

Ad-hoc activity:
In collaboration with account lead, create and maintain a log / calendar of PR activity and associated task status report
Act as a secondary contact point for media requests and ensure a prompt reply service
Assist with other tasks (on- and off-site) and all reasonable requests as and when required

Media monitoring:
Coordinate media monitoring process
Provide weekly summary of media coverage highlights
Deliver monthly media coverage reports and issue bulletin to relevant, internal stakeholders

Budget and finance:
Administer the PO & invoice payment process supported by the finance team
Create and maintain a budget log of expenditure throughout the year

This role will require weekend work, time away from home, and overseas travel

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a good knowledge of the wider motorcycle world (and will quickly understand the finer points of the BMW Motorrad product range). In addition to experience of dealing with media, they will have strong communication / writing abilities, an interest in and knowledge of motorcycle racing, as well as a sound grounding in the use of social media in a commercial setting.

Must be creative, proactive, flexible, enthusiastic and able to credibly deliver the corporate messaging of a premium automotive brand

Desirable

Media-facing experience (ideally in an automotive / motorcycle environment)
A knowledge of BMW Motorrad product and the wider motorcycle world
An interest in and knowledge of modern motorcycle racing
Experience of organising / working at trade or customer-facing events
A motorcycle licence and experience of riding motorcycles (highly desirable)
